My Spindrift is the pack I got after years of touring with backpacking backpacks, and then my Warthog, and finally with the fear that I would break the straps on my Warthog while ski carrying, I caved and bought a ski specific pack. I haven't regretted it one bit, and I use my Spindrift now every time I go touring. The avi pocket is spacious, and while it isn't accessible from the outside (you have to open the main zipper to get to it), it is really quick to access. The A-frame carry and diagonal carry works really well, and it seems to have the perfect pockets everywhere. With my very non-euro skins (BD Nylon), I can't fit them in the intended skin pocket, but I often either just stuff them in my jacket, or put them in the pocket that is on the helmet bikini.
The Spindrift is overall a great pack, but my one gripe is that Mammut doesn't make a short torso'ed non airbag ski pack. The bag I have is a little big for me, and the straps are cinched down almost to the max when I wear it. I am 5'7" and around 175lbs, so not necessarily a small person by any means. Ultimately it works for me, but just barely. I also wish that the side pocket on the pack had a second one on the other side! But ya, I do understand that it adds weight, so no harm there necessarily.
Pros:
Pockets are great! Just the right amount for the most part.
32L is a great size for me for a day pack. I could maybe go smaller most days, but oh well.
It is pretty lightweight being only 2.5lbs.
A-frame and diagonal carries work really well.
I appreciate having a helmet bikini on the outside, and this one works well.
Cons:
Almost too big for me
Avalanche pocket sometimes inhibits ability to fill the bag to capacity. However, once I got a smaller shovel, this problem was minimized.
