This jacket is my first Gore-Pro jacket. AKA my first bomber jacket that still breathes really well. This was a long time coming, and I love it. If you haven't guessed by now, I am a huge Mammut fan. They make bomber gear, and even though they're a Euro brand, they make gear that actually fits. (I haven't really tried their pants yet, so don't take my word for it for their pants.) I'm a pretty consistent Medium, and this remains true for Mammut, even for their "Eiger Extreme" line, which the Nordwand falls into. I break this jacket out mostly when I am ski touring with rainy or wet snow conditions. I also bring this out on multi-day expeditions where I am unsure of the weather.
The jacket has just the right amount of pockets and goes down my back long enough to cover my butt. (No CBS due to a wet butt, yay!) The hood took me a while to get used to, as it is quite big, but it fits a helmet super super comfortably, and once I figured out all the cinches and doo-dads, I found I really liked it. I do wish it had a skin pocket, or a big drop pocket on the inside, but not having this does save weight, so I won't complain too much. The pit-zips are top notch, and open really big. This is fantastic because, ya girl gets sweaty on those skintracks. The one big bummer about this jacket, was that I could only find it in my size in the dark navy color. Ideally, I would want to have a bright color to be highly visible, but alas. Time to get really bright pants!
PROS:
Fit is spot on. I can wear my Nano Air under it no problem, but it isn't too big without.
Mammut is the master of pockets and features. Everything is right where I need them.
Pretty lightweight for a Gore Pro piece!
So far, durability rocks, and I've gone through brush and branches no problem with it on.
CONS:
I could only find my size in a dark color. Not great for visibility while skiing.
Hood is a little awkward and big, but manageable once you get a hang of the cinches.
Velcro cufflinks are oddly huge... Not sure entirely why this is but sometimes it is a little awkward.
